Patriotic Alliance (PA) Deputy President Kenny Kunene has been suspended from all party activities and removed from his role as MMC for Transport in Johannesburg, following his presence at the home of Katiso “KT” Molefe a suspect arrested in connection with the 2022 murder investigation of South African artist DJ Sumbody.
Initially, PA leader Gayton McKenzie publicly defended Kunene, insisting that Kunene was set up and had no links to any criminal activity. Speaking shortly after the raid, McKenzie stated:
“Kenny Kunene would never involve himself with murderers. I firmly believe he was set up and have confidence that he has nothing to do with this case.”

However, after further internal review and mounting public pressure, McKenzie announced Kunene’s suspension and mandated a one-month political hiatus to preserve the party’s integrity.

“While I trust Kenny personally, leadership must be beyond reproach. Suspending him is necessary as we await full clarity on the matter,” McKenzie explained in a subsequent statement.
