Molefe is believed to be the alleged mastermind behind the November 2022 assassination, which claimed the lives of DJ Sumbody and his bodyguard in a targeted shooting. Police sources confirm that Molefe’s arrest is part of a broader operation that also resulted in the apprehension of three other suspects allegedly hired hitmen involved in the execution of the killing.
All four suspects are expected to be charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder, among other offenses.
Murder That Shocked a Nation
DJ Sumbody was killed in a hail of bullets while driving in Johannesburg in the early hours of 20 November 2022. The attack appeared calculated and professional, leading investigators to suspect a contract killing from the outset.
For months, the case stagnated, drawing public frustration. The artist’s family and fans pleaded for justice as the trail went cold. In 2024, authorities officially classified the case as “cold,” stating no significant leads had materialized.
Justice at Last?
The arrest of Molefe may finally provide long-awaited answers about the motive behind the killing. While police have not publicly confirmed a motive, investigators are reportedly looking into financial and business-related disputes between Molefe and the late DJ.
Law enforcement officials also confirmed the seizure of a firearm during the investigation. Ballistics tests have linked the weapon to DJ Sumbody’s murder and potentially to other criminal acts.
Legal Process Begins
All four accused are set to make their first court appearance later this week. Police say the investigation is still ongoing and that further arrests or developments could follow as new evidence emerges.
A Turning Point
The arrest of Katiso “KT” Molefe marks a turning point in one of South Africa’s most high-profile unsolved murder cases. While justice has not yet been fully served, this latest breakthrough brings renewed hope for accountability and closure for DJ Sumbody’s grieving family and supporters.
