In a dramatic turn of events in the ongoing investigation into the murder of popular musician DJ Sumbody, police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the killing Katiso “KT” Molefe during a raid on his luxury Sandton home. Surprisingly, authorities found Kenny Kunene, Johannesburg Transport MMC and Deputy President of the Patriotic Alliance, at the residence during the arrest.
According to law enforcement sources, Kunene was not involved in any criminal activity and was reportedly waiting for a scheduled meeting with Molefe when the police arrived. Officers confirmed his presence was coincidental and stated that he is not a suspect in the case.
The arrest forms part of a broader crackdown on organized crime linked to DJ Sumbody's murder in 2022. Molefe, a prominent figure in Johannesburg’s nightlife and business circles, has been under investigation for several months.
During the raid, police also seized multiple firearms from Molefe’s property. Forensic experts believe these weapons may be connected to at least 10 high-profile cases, suggesting that Molefe could be at the center of a wider criminal network.
“We have reason to believe the firearms discovered could be linked to other serious crimes,” said a police spokesperson. “Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests may follow.”
DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa John Sefoka, was gunned down in a brazen shooting in November 2022. His murder sent shockwaves through the South African entertainment industry and has remained unsolved until this recent breakthrough.
The arrest of Molefe and the discovery of potentially crucial forensic evidence mark a significant development in the case. Meanwhile, questions remain about the extent of his alleged operations and how high up the connections may go.
The police have assured the public that a full statement will be released once preliminary investigations are complete.
