Minnie Dlamini Demands Millions from MacG and Sol Phenduka

TV personality seeks multi million rand damages over allegedly defamatory podcast comments

The public trio at the heart of a media controversy: Minnie Dlamini pursues legal recourse against MacG and Sol Phenduka for comments made on their podcast.

Television personality Minnie Dlamini is reportedly demanding millions of rands in damages from podcast hosts MacG and Sol Phenduka, following allegedly defamatory comments made about her on their show, Podcast and Chill. This development was first reported by Sunday World and has since drawn wide public attention.

Alleged Defamation on Podcast and Chill

According to the report, the demand stems from a recent podcast episode in which MacG and Sol Phenduka made remarks that Dlamini has described as “vile” and damaging to her public image. The comments, which touched on her personal life and reputation, have sparked considerable backlash, including from advocacy groups and political figures who criticized the episode as misogynistic and irresponsible.

Although the specific monetary value of the claim has not been disclosed by official sources, Sunday World alleges that Dlamini is seeking a multi-million rand settlement through legal channels.

Legal and Public Response

While MacG’s team issued a public apology and extended an invitation for Dlamini to appear on the podcast to clear the air, she has reportedly rejected the offer. Instead, Dlamini is said to be moving forward with formal legal action, arguing that the comments crossed a line and harmed her dignity and career.

In her response, Dlamini emphasized that her decision is not only about personal vindication but also about holding media figures accountable for perpetuating harmful narratives about women.

“This is about more than just me. It’s about the broader culture of misogyny that’s being normalised in entertainment,” she stated.

Broader Backlash and Institutional Concern

The incident has prompted broader discussions about freedom of expression versus defamation, especially in online spaces. Several civil society organizations, including gender-based violence advocacy groups, have condemned the podcast’s tone and content.

Some groups have gone as far as lodging complaints with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), calling for regulation and accountability in podcasting and digital content creation.

As of now, neither MacG nor Sol Phenduka has publicly commented on the reported multi-million rand claim. If the legal proceedings go ahead, the case could become a landmark example of defamation in South Africa’s digital media landscape, testing the balance between public discourse, personal rights, and media responsibility.
