It’s been over a year since South African hip-hop icon Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was tragically gunned down outside a Durban nightclub and for those who were closest to the scene, the trauma still lingers.

In a deeply emotional interview, the nightclub’s owner has broken their silence, sharing the pain and chaos that unfolded just moments before AKA was set to perform. According to Daily Sun, the award-winning rapper was scheduled to take the stage that night, and the energy inside the club was electric with anticipation. But in an instant, everything changed.

“We heard the shots and everything went silent,” the club owner recalled. “People started running. It was like a nightmare.”

The gunshots rang out just outside the venue, striking down AKA in a brazen assassination that stunned the country. The club owner, who asked to remain unnamed, said the scene was nothing short of traumatic. Staff members and patrons alike were left in shock, many frozen in place as the reality of what had happened sank in.

“It wasn’t just another artist performing. It was AKA. He had fans here. People were excited. And then… it ended like that,” they told Daily Sun.

Since the incident, the venue has continued operating but the emotional scars remain. The owner admitted to having sleepless nights and flashbacks of the moment the shots were fired. It’s something they, and many others who were present, may never fully recover from.

Authorities have continued investigating the murder, with CCTV footage and witness accounts under close review. As of now, no one has been officially charged, though police say progress is being made.

AKA was more than just a musician he was a cultural icon. His death not only devastated the entertainment industry, but left a deep wound in the hearts of fans and collaborators across the globe.

As the nightclub community tries to move forward, one thing is certain: his absence is still felt, and justice is still being sought.
