Reality TV personality and content creator Vuyokazi “Vovo” Nguqu has spoken out against cyberbullying after facing online backlash for her appearance at the EFF’s 12th Birthday Celebration in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
The 38-year-old, best known for her role on Moja Love's "Sweet and Short", took to social media to post an emotional video asking people to stop harassing and mocking her. In the video, Vovo expressed that she is being unfairly targeted and ridiculed for her choices particularly for performing at an EFF event despite previously receiving a house from the ANC.
Why Vovo Is Trending
Vovo became a hot topic on social media following her performance at the EFF's event on July 29, 2025. While some applauded her presence and charisma, others were quick to criticize her for appearing to "switch sides" politically.
Many users pointed out that Vovo had previously shown public support for the African National Congress (ANC) including being gifted a house through a government program. These critics questioned her loyalty and accused her of being inconsistent in her political affiliations.
🗣️ Vovo Responds to the Hate
In her video, Vovo said:
"I am tired. People are bullying me for things they don’t even understand. I went to perform, not to do politics. Why must I suffer for making people happy?"
She added that she feels disrespected by how quickly people turned on her over what she considers a non-political act.
Public Reactions Are Divided
The incident has sparked a broader debate about how public figures especially those from vulnerable communities are treated when they engage with different political spaces.
Some users defended her, saying she has the right to perform anywhere she is invited without being labeled a traitor. Others believe public figures must be more mindful of the political implications of their appearances.
Vuyokazi “Vovo” Nguqu rose to fame on the hit reality series Sweet and Short, where her bubbly personality, humor, and resilience made her a fan favorite. Beyond TV, she’s become a beloved content creator and motivational voice for people living with dwarfism and other marginalized communities.
