Lerato Kganyago Says She Was Followed — Says One Suspect Is a Police Officer

The media personality says she set a deliberate trap to expose those trailing her, capturing photos of each person involved including one man she alleges is a police officer.

South African media personality Lerato Kganyago has come forward with serious allegations of being followed, revealing in a statement shared via her Instagram Stories that she recently orchestrated a “trap” to confirm her suspicions and identified one of the alleged followers as a police officer.

In her emotional post, Kganyago thanked restaurant staff and security for alerting her to suspicious individuals who had allegedly entered the venue asking about her whereabouts, including where she was seated and when she arrived.

 “As much as I had bravely set this ‘trap,’ I'm very grateful that there are people from the restaurant and security that alerted me that there are people who are following me,” she wrote.

A Strategic Setup

Kganyago said she deliberately chose a restaurant known for having a less diverse demographic, hoping it would make any unfamiliar individuals more noticeable a strategy that, she claims, worked.

 “I intentionally chose a restaurant that I was aware lacked a diverse demographic, as I anticipated that they would be more noticeable there… AND THEY WERE!”

She recounted pretending to take a photo of a friend sitting across from her a decoy move that allowed her to discreetly capture images of the men she believed were following her. According to her, the same individuals followed her as she exited the restaurant.

“My friend parked outside and watched me get in the car, watching every movement of each and every one of them,” Kganyago stated.

Photographic Evidence and a Chilling Claim

Kganyago alleges she has photographic evidence of everyone involved, including a man she identifies as a police officer standing next to one of the suspects in the parking lot.

 “I've got a picture of the other gentleman you were with and the police officer that stood right next to you at the parking lot. I've circulated all their pictures to my loved ones,” she wrote, adding: “This is only the beginning.”

A Confrontation and Silence from Police

Kganyago went on to share that she confronted one of the men directly in the presence of a uniformed police officer, who allegedly said nothing during the encounter.

 “I bravely got out of the car, BY MYSELF  which I don't advise and confronted one of them… standing next to a uniformed police officer, who said NOTHING,” she wrote. “They only walked away when they realized I had been recording ALL OF THEM.”

She emphasized that she would not have taken the risk had she not had private security nearby, referring to the men as “thugs.”

 “I only did this because I knew I had 'invisible' security around me. THEY ARE THUGS!”

Kganyago assured her followers that she is now safe at home, urging others to stay vigilant.

“I don’t mean to scare you. But be vigilant. Document and protect yourself.”

 “I will ALWAYS look and sound happy, because that’s what keeps me ALIVE in spirit! My fear? My fear is worn out. I do NOT fear anymore!”

Public Concern and Pending Response

As of now, there has been no official statement from the South African Police Service (SAPS) regarding these allegations, nor has Kganyago confirmed whether she intends to take legal action or file a formal complaint.

This is not the first time the star has spoken publicly about feeling unsafe. In 2018, she reported being harassed by a stalker and opened a case with police.
