A devastating turn of events has shaken the community of Fleurhof after the arrest of Tiffany Meek, 31, who now faces murder charges in connection with the death of her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek.

Jayden-Lee, a Grade 6 student, was found dead on May 14, 2025, inside the Swazi’s Place apartment complex just a few steps away from his family’s home. His body, bearing visible injuries and partially clothed, was discovered a day after his mother had reported him missing.

According to reports, the young boy was last seen on May 13 after being dropped off by his usual school transport. When he failed to return home, a missing persons report was filed, prompting a frantic search by both residents and local authorities.

The community was left heartbroken upon learning of his death. Vigils, protests, and public outcries soon followed, with residents demanding accountability and answers from law enforcement. Many questioned how such a tragic incident could happen so close to home and how the suspect had not been swiftly identified.

After nearly two months of investigation, police arrested Tiffany Meek on July 11. Authorities stated that detectives from both the Florida Police Department and the Provincial Investigative Unit were involved in the case. The arrest has sparked outrage, with many accusing officials of taking too long to act.

“We are angry and hurt,” said one resident during a protest outside the Florida Police Station. “This little boy didn’t deserve to die, and it shouldn’t have taken this long to find out who did it.”

Tiffany Meek is currently in custody and has appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, where she faces a murder charge. The court is expected to delve into the details surrounding Jayden-Lee’s final hours, with the public watching closely.

The incident has also drawn national attention, with advocacy groups like the Women Empowerment Platform calling for stronger measures to protect children and better handling of abuse and missing child cases. They’ve criticized what they describe as a sluggish and ineffective response by law enforcement in the early stages of the investigation.
