Luxury Lifestyle Under Fire

Tamia, who married Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane in 2021, has often shared glimpses of a lavish lifestyle designer fashion, five-star getaways, and high-end vehicles all of which painted a picture of opulence under the Mkhize family name.

However, recent headlines suggest that this image of abundance may be under threat. News broke this week that several luxury vehicles belonging to her mother-in-law, businesswoman and reality TV star Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, are set to be auctioned off.

This follows a months-long clampdown by the South African Revenue Services (SARS), reportedly aimed at recovering outstanding tax debts. Earlier in the year, SARS also moved in on Royal AM Football Club, heightening speculation about the Mkhize family’s finances.

Public Backlash and Online Mockery

The backlash on social media was immediate and unrelenting. While Tamia herself is not accused of any wrongdoing, many users were quick to drag her name into the conversation accusing her of marrying into wealth that is now crumbling.

One user on X (formerly Twitter), @kuanele, wrote: "Marrying into a family for money and having to deal with a child-husband, only for the family to start losing their wealth, would irritate me so bad."

Another, @LesediMS_, commented: "Now you have two kids and an empty bag!"

More online voices joined the conversation. A Reddit user on r/southafrica remarked: "Once she made her son the team captain, I knew MaMkhize was on some BS. Not surprised that SARS is on them. Shame for the professionals involved."

Others expressed disbelief at the family’s flaunted wealth: "Kanti how much does this people have @sarstax" one user posted. Another added, "All will come to an end soon… His mother was the biggest beneficiary of the corrupt tenders."

Another user summed up the public sentiment bluntly: "I'm all for Black excellence and wealth, but when it's at the expense of poor people, I can't f*** with it."

A Quiet but Loyal Presence

Despite the criticism, Tamia has never publicly distanced herself from the Mpisanes. On the contrary, she has appeared loyal and steadfast even during moments of controversy. Reports earlier this year alleged that she was present during a police raid involving MaMkhize, and may have briefly been detained alongside family members. While details remain unconfirmed, the incident only added to the public scrutiny around her.

Tamia has not responded to the latest developments, nor has she addressed the viral commentary online.

What’s Next for the Mpisane Legacy?

With SARS tightening its grip on MaMkhize’s assets and the Royal AM brand facing ongoing financial and legal pressure, the future of the family’s luxury empire remains uncertain. While the cars going under the hammer mark a significant moment, many are watching to see how the family and Tamia will navigate the storm.
