Sizwe Dhlomo Faces Backlash After Snubbing Lasizwe's YouTube Invite: "I Clock Everything" Says Lasizwe

Sizwe Dhlomo is facing backlash after bluntly rejecting an invitation to appear on Lasizwe Dambuza’s hit YouTube show, Awkward Dates.

When a fan suggested Sizwe Dlhomo as a guest, Lasizwe officially invited him but Sizwe wasn’t interested. “I don’t do interviews,” he responded, adding, “Good show though. If ever I have something to promote one day, I’ll hit you up. Keep up the good work.”

Instead of just saying no, Sizwe offered Lasizwe a different kind of opportunity: private mentorship. “Don’t bring cameras, but you can shadow me for a full week,” he tweeted. “I’ll give you a breakdown of how to move in the game… if you’ll find that kind of info useful.”

Lasizwe’s response? Calm, cheeky, and razor-sharp. “Let’s shoot,” he said, “and you said ‘Shadow me.’ Kodwa ke okay Sizzzzz... let’s see what direction this takes. I’m breezing. I laugh a lot, but I clock everything. 🙂”

While it might seem lighthearted on the surface, fans were quick to pick up on the subtle shade.

Lasizwe essentially called out the shift in energy he offered a direct, public collaboration, but Sizwe flipped it into something private and off-camera. By saying “Let’s shoot” and quoting “Shadow me,” Lasizwe made it clear that the offer he extended wasn’t what he got back. The stretched “Sizzzzz” and “Kodwa ke” (a Zulu phrase meaning “But anyway”) added a hint of sass and sarcasm polite, but pointed. And that final line? “I laugh a lot, but I clock everything” was the quiet clapback a smooth reminder that while he plays it cool, nothing goes unnoticed.

The exchange quickly divided fans. Some saw Sizwe’s offer as a chance to learn from someone with years of industry experience. Others felt it came off as dismissive, implying that Lasizwe’s platform wasn’t worthy of a formal appearance.

Social media users were also quick to drag up a past incident involving Sizwe: a young woman once asked him out on a date via X (formerly Twitter), and he publicly agreed only to later change his mind and ghost the plans. Many brought up the moment as another example of Sizwe’s reputation for backtracking and breaking casual public promises.

Critics added that Sizwe, who comes from a politically connected family, has long benefited from legacy access  often being described as a “nepo baby.” While his offer to let Lasizwe shadow him might genuinely be useful, some fans argue it felt more like gatekeeping than support.

Still, Lasizwe isn’t slowing down. He’s already confirmed Zozibini Tunzi former Miss Universe and Miss South Africa for an upcoming episode of Awkward Dates, alongside other high-profile hopefuls like Bonang Matheba, Tyla, Uncle Waffles, and Thembinkosi Mthembu.
