South African music sensation Tyla is set to make history as the first African artist to host the global broadcast of the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. The 2025 ceremony, scheduled to air live on June 21 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, marks a significant milestone not just in Tyla’s career, but for African representation on international entertainment stages.
Tyla, who skyrocketed to global fame with her chart-topping hit “Water,” continues to break barriers. Her unique fusion of pop, R&B, and the South African-born amapiano genre has captivated international audiences and earned her numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award. Tyla is also nominated in two major categories: Favorite Global Music Star (representing Africa) and Favorite Music Collaboration for “Show Me Love,” her collab with WizTheMc and bees & honey.
While this is the first time an African artist will host the main global broadcast, it's worth noting that in 2022, fellow South African and NickMusic presenter Lerai Rakoditse made history by hosting the African segment of the awards. Tyla’s new role, however, places her center stage on a worldwide platform, underscoring the growing global influence of African artists.
The 2025 Kids' Choice Awards promises to be a vibrant, star-studded event with nominations led by international superstars such as Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar. Viewers can expect a thrilling show filled with exciting performances, celebrity appearances, and the signature slime-filled fun the event is famous for.
