Akani Simbine extended his perfect run in the 2025 Diamond League season with a commanding victory in the men’s 100m at the Rabat leg on Sunday, 25 May. The South African sprint star surged past his rivals to cross the line in 9.95 seconds, adding a third win to his season after triumphs in Xiamen and Keqiao.
The race began with Ferdinand Omanyala getting out well, setting the early pace. As the field settled, Akani Simbine timed his transition perfectly, building momentum through the middle phase. With a composed and powerful finish, he surged ahead of the pack to claim victory in 9.95 seconds just short of his season’s best.
Omanyala finished second, a tenth behind Simbine, with Kerley claiming third in 10.07 seconds. Emmanuel Eseme followed in 10.10, narrowly edging Brandon Hicklin. Tebogo, after slowing down with 40 meters remaining, coasted to the finish in last place at 10.43 seconds casting uncertainty over his participation in the 200m later in the meet.
After the race, Simbine expressed confidence in his form and excitement about racing on African soil. He emphasized the importance of showcasing African talent and praised the local support, noting the vibrant atmosphere in the packed stadium. With his unbeaten streak intact and another sub-10 performance under his belt, Simbine now returns to Italy to continue preparations for the next phase of the Diamond League season.
