South African musician Scotts Maphuma has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over his refusal to take pictures with fansa decision that many labeled as dismissive and arrogant.
The controversy began weeks ago when Scotts made headlines for declining photo requests at live gigs. The move didn’t sit well with fans, many of whom felt snubbed by the artist's behavior. At some of his shows, attendees reportedly stopped dancing and disengaged from his performances, signaling their disappointment in real time. Online, criticism snowballed, with some even calling for him to be “cancelled.”
Amid the growing pressure, Scotts took to X to share a heartfelt statement of regret.

He wrote, "I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize to all my supporters. I’ve let some of you down, and I take full responsibility. Growth comes with owning your mistakes and I’m committed to doing better, for myself and for you. Thank you for still believing in me."
