Police Confirm Vehicle in Hennops River Belonged to Deceased Free State Officers

Police Confirm White Volkswagen Polo Found in Hennops River Linked to Missing Free State Officers

Tragic Discovery: Bodies of Three Missing Free State Police Officers Found Near Johannesburg

Police have officially confirmed that the white Volkswagen Polo recovered from the Hennops River belonged to the three Free State police officers who tragically lost their lives.

The officers were reported missing on Wednesday, April 23, while traveling from Bloemfontein to Limpopo. Their disappearance prompted a widespread search. On Tuesday, April 29, their bodies were discovered in the Hennops River near Johannesburg, a deeply distressing development that confirmed fears of a fatal incident.

Initially, only parts of the vehicle were recovered from the river on Wednesday, April 30, helping to link the scene to the missing officers. However, in a significant breakthrough today, the full vehicle was retrieved from the river. Authorities have since positively identified it through its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) as the white VW Polo the officers had been driving.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation, with police urging the public to refrain from speculation while forensic examinations and inquiries continue. National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has expressed condolences to the families and emphasized the force’s commitment to uncovering the full circumstances behind the tragedy.
