Deputy Minister Steve Letsike Clarifies Stance on Mac G Controversy Amid Gender-Based Violence Concerns

Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike Responds to Backlash Over Condemnation of Mac G’s Remarks

After condemning Mac G’s comments about Minnie Dlamini as online gender-based violence, Deputy Minister Letsike faces criticism for reportedly planning to summon the podcaster to Parliament sparking debate over priorities in tackling GBV.

Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, has addressed the recent backlash following her response to podcast host Mac G's controversial remarks about media personality Minnie Dlamini.

Initially, Letsike condemned Mac G's comments as a form of online gender-based violence (GBV), highlighting the detrimental role digital platforms can play in perpetuating such abuse.  This led to reports suggesting that she intended to summon Mac G to Parliament, sparking criticism from social media users who felt that her focus should be on more pressing GBV cases.

In a recent video circulating on social media, Letsike clarified that she does not plan to summon Mac G to Parliament.  She emphasized that her earlier statements were directed to two parliamentary portfolio committees, aiming to address the broader issue of online GBV rather than targeting individuals.
