A social media spat erupted between Cassper Nyovest and Sol Phenduka over the rapper's old nickname, "Don Nyoviolas."
It started when a video went viral showing a visibly drunk Sol Phenduka trying to greet Cassper in a parking lot. Cassper ignored him, but as Sol was being pulled away by a friend, he shouted, “I love you, Nyoviolas!” That moment reignited the forgotten nickname, and it began trending online.
On May 30, Cassper posted a photo of himself on Facebook with the caption “The Don Nyoviolas.” A user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a screenshot and tagged Sol, saying, “Cassper is calling himself with the name you gave him.”
Sol responded by clarifying that the name wasn’t new it was an old one that even Cassper had forgotten and claimed he was the one who resurrected it by calling Cassper that in the viral video.
Cassper dismissed the credit Sol was taking, replying, “You’re giving yourself a bit too much credit there, madakweni. Relaxa!” The term “madakweni,” slang for “drunkard,” was taken as a dig at Sol’s intoxicated state in the video.
In response, Sol coolly replied, “My turn to mize,” suggesting it was now his turn to ignore Cassper a nod to how Cassper had once paid him dust.
The moment sparked strong reactions online. Many backed Sol, saying he unintentionally made the nickname relevant again. Others accused Cassper of looking for a new beef now that AKA has passed, suggesting he's stirring controversy to stay relevant in music.
