Bushiri Claps Back at Ndlozi Over Wealth Remarks in Malawi
A heated exchange between Malawian preacher and businessman Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and South African political activist Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has sparked regional debate on wealth, leadership, and political boundaries.
Dr. Ndlozi, a former Member of Parliament and prominent figure in South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), recently visited Malawi as a guest of the country's Minister of Trade and Industry, Vitumbiko Mumba. His visit was centered on engaging the Malawian youth in conversations about leadership and socio-economic development beyond the confines of partisan politics.
However, during one of his public lectures, Ndlozi openly questioned the source of Prophet Bushiri’s wealth a move that didn’t sit well with the controversial religious leader. In a sharp response, Bushiri accused Ndlozi of harboring jealousy and displaying xenophobic tendencies, expressing disbelief that a foreign guest would come to his country to cast aspersions on his reputation.
"This is not about accountability; it’s envy disguised as curiosity," Bushiri reportedly said, suggesting that Ndlozi’s comments were less about public interest and more about undermining him personally.
The incident has since stirred up conversations both online and in political circles, with many weighing in on whether it was appropriate for Ndlozi to raise such questions during his diplomatic visit, and whether Bushiri’s response was justified.
As the dust settles, one thing is clear: the Bushiri-Ndlozi exchange has reignited broader discussions about wealth transparency, the role of religious figures in politics, and the boundaries of cross-border criticism within African nations.
