Bodies Recovered from Hennops River Amid Search for Missing SAPS Officers

Three bodies have been retrieved from the Hennops River in Centurion, near Tshwane, as part of an ongoing investigation into the mysterious disappearance of three South African Police Service (SAPS) officers last week.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the identities of the deceased individuals had not yet been officially established by midday Tuesday.

“The SAPS confirms that its investigation has brought it to the Hennops River in Centurion, along the N1. So far, three bodies have been recovered, but their identities remain unconfirmed,” said Mathe.

She added that the search operation remains active, with authorities continuing to comb the area for a possible fourth body or any additional evidence that could assist in resolving the case.

While identification has not been confirmed, the bodies are believed to possibly be those of the missing officers: 20-year-old Constable Boipelo Senoge, 24-year-old Constable Cebekhulu Linda, and 30-year-old Constable Keamogetswe Buys. The three were last seen in the early hours of Thursday morning at a petrol station near the Grasmere Toll Plaza on the N1 in Gauteng.

Police officers, accompanied by private security companies, have maintained a strong presence at the scene, emphasizing that the search for the missing officers continues in earnest.

In a press briefing on Sunday, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola announced a R350,000 reward for any information that could lead to the whereabouts of the missing officers or those responsible for their disappearance.

“We are hopeful, and we will find whoever is behind this. We will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to justice,” said Masemola. “That is why we have issued a R350,000 reward for any information about the location of our members or the suspects involved.”

Masemola made the announcement in Bloemfontein, where he was joined by Free State Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae and Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya.

Police continue to urge members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation.
